What is the Callback Window in Call Automator?

When your AI assistant calls someone and they don't answer, there's a good chance they'll see the missed call and ring back. Call Automator is built to handle that return call automatically - no matter where you are.

While your request is active, your AI assistant is always ready

Any time your request is still active, your AI assistant is standing by to answer a return call from the recipient - even if you have the Callback Window disabled.

For example: your AI assistant called, left a voicemail, and is now waiting 30 minutes before the next retry. If the recipient calls back during that wait, your AI assistant picks up, handles the conversation with full context, and skips the 30 minute retry.

Same goal, same script, no action needed from you.

What happens after all attempts are exhausted

Once your retries are used up and the recipient still hasn't connected, the Callback Window activates. If the recipient calls back from the same number your AI assistant dialed, your AI assistant picks up and handles the conversation just as it would have on the original call - same goal, same context, same script.

Your call page will show "Waiting for Callback" with a Line Open badge and a countdown showing exactly when the window closes.

Why we don't leave the line open forever

Your phone number behaves normally the entire time - anyone calling from an unknown number reaches your voicemail as usual. The Callback Window simply creates one specific exception: if the recipient calls back from the same number your AI assistant dialed, that call gets routed to your AI assistant instead of voicemail. Once the window closes, that exception is removed.

How long does it stay open?

You choose the window length in Call Settings when setting up your request. You can pick between 1 day, 3 days (default), 5 days, or disabled (not recommended).

Requires a Custom Phone Number

The Callback Window only works if you're using a Custom Phone Number (the dedicated number purchased through Loophole).

If you're using a Verified Phone Number (your own personal number) the Callback Window setting is disabled automatically. This is because any return calls to your real number go to you directly, not to your AI assistant.

What happens when someone calls back

Whether it's during an active retry wait or during an open Callback Window, the return call shows as an Inbound Callback in your Call Timeline.

Your AI assistant answers, handles the conversation, and the result is analyzed just like any outbound attempt.

What happens when the window closes

If no callback comes in before the window expires, the request moves to completed and you'll see the final result on your call page. No additional charges are applied for the window itself - you only pay for active call time.

How to extend or end the Callback Window

If your Call Automator task is 'active' you can click on the dropdown menu beside 'Report Issue' and click on the 'Manage Callback Window' button.

The 'Manage Callback Window' popup will show where you can easily click to extend or end your Callback Window.

Note: Extending the Callback Window does not cost anything extra. You are only charged for actual phone time during live calls.
