What phone number does Phone Console use when calling?

Updated over 5 months ago

Phone Console uses two types of phone numbers depending on your account settings: a random assigned number (included free) or a dedicated phone number (optional $5/month upgrade).

Both options are designed to protect your privacy while ensuring calls appear legitimate and local to the recipient.

Option 1: Random Assigned Number (Free - Default)

How It Works:

When Phone Console makes a call, it automatically uses a random phone number that closely matches your area code based on the ZIP code set in your account.

  • Area code matching: We try to get as close as possible to your ZIP code's area code, but perfect matching isn't always guaranteed.

  • Legitimate appearance: The number appears like a normal local call to the recipient, increasing answer rates.

  • No setup required: This happens automatically - you don't need to do anything.

Important Details:

Shared Across Multiple Problems
The random number assigned isn't unique to a single Problem. It may be used across multiple calls and Problems - even for different users.

Your Data Is Protected
Even though the number is shared, no data leaks between users. Other users cannot see your calls, logs, transcripts, or any information. Each user's data remains completely private and isolated.

Number Visibility
By default, you will not see the random number that Phone Console uses. The system handles this automatically behind the scenes.

Edge Cases: In rare situations where the recipient needs to know the number (e.g., they have call blocking enabled or need to whitelist it), we can share the number on a case-by-case basis.

If Someone Calls Back
If a recipient returns a call to one of these random numbers, they'll reach a voicemail system that says:
"The voicemail box is not set up."

No voicemail can be left, and no information is shared.

When to Use This Option:

  • You're making one-time or occasional calls where callbacks aren't expected

  • You want maximum privacy with no dedicated number tied to your account

  • You don't need a custom voicemail or callback capability

  • You want to keep costs minimal

Option 2: Dedicated Phone Number ($5/month Upgrade)

How It Works:

For $5 per month, you can add a dedicated phone number to your Loophole account. This number:

  • Is yours exclusively - No sharing with other users

  • Persists across all Problems - Use the same number for multiple calls over time

  • Allows custom voicemail - Set up a professional greeting for callbacks

  • Enables callback management - Receive and review voicemails tied to your Problems

Setting Up Your Dedicated Number:

  1. Subscribe to the $5/month upgrade (available in your account settings or Problem Dashboard)

  2. Choose your number:

    • The area code is automatically set based on your account ZIP code

    • You can select your preferred number from available options with that area code

Custom Voicemail Setup:

You can record or type a custom voicemail greeting, such as:

"You've reached John Doe. Please leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible."

Incoming calls:

  • All calls to your dedicated number go directly to voicemail

  • Calls never auto-connect or auto-forward to your personal phone number

  • You maintain complete privacy and control

Voicemail transcription:

  • All voicemails are automatically transcribed

  • The system matches voicemails to the relevant Problem or World record based on:

    • The phone number that called in (matching against your World entries)

    • Content analysis of the voicemail (keywords, context, entities)

    • The Problem timeline (which calls were made recently)

  • Transcripts appear in your Problem Dashboard for easy review

Voicemail retention:

  • Voicemails are kept for 30 days by default

  • You can delete any voicemail with one click at any time

  • When a Problem closes, voicemails associated with it are retained for 30 days, then automatically deleted

Using Your Dedicated Number:

By default, Phone Console uses your dedicated number for all calls once you've subscribed.

Per-call override:
Before any call, you can choose to use a random number instead if you prefer. This gives you flexibility:

  • Use your dedicated number for important, ongoing issues

  • Use a random number for one-time or sensitive calls

You decide on a call-by-call basis.

When to Use This Option:

  • You expect callbacks and want to manage them professionally

  • You're working on long-term Problems where consistency matters

  • You want a professional voicemail presence

  • You need to track which Problems generate callbacks

  • You make frequent calls and want a recognizable number

Requesting a Different Number

Random Number (Free Option):

In rare edge cases, if you need a different random number assigned (ex: the current one is flagged by spam filters), you can:

We'll work with you to resolve the issue on a case-by-case basis.

Dedicated Number ($5/month Option):

When you first subscribe, you choose your dedicated number from available options. Once selected, that number is yours for as long as you maintain the subscription.

Cannot port in your own number:
Loophole does not support porting your existing personal or business phone number into Phone Console. Phone Console numbers are exclusively Loophole-provided numbers through our infrastructure (powered by Twilio).

If you cancel the $5/month subscription:

  • Your dedicated number is released immediately

  • You lose the number permanently

  • You cannot get the same number back if you re-subscribe later

  • A new number must be selected if you re-subscribe in the future

Using Your Own Phone Number (Alternative Approach)

What if I want to use my own personal cell phone or business number for calls?

If you prefer to use your own existing phone number, you cannot use Phone Console to make the call. Instead:

  1. Use Research Console to analyze your Problem and develop strategy

  2. Use Compose Console to generate a call script

  3. Make the call yourself using your own phone

  4. Report back to Loophole with the outcome

This approach gives you complete control over the phone number used, but you lose the benefits of Phone Console's:

  • Natural emotional delivery

  • Phone tree navigation

  • Hold time patience

  • Adaptive conversation capabilities

Privacy & Security

Random Numbers:

  • Protect your personal phone number

  • Cannot receive callbacks or voicemails

  • Shared infrastructure, but isolated data

  • No cross-user information leakage

Dedicated Numbers:

  • Protect your personal phone number

  • Professional callback management

  • Custom voicemail with transcription

  • Voicemails automatically matched to Problems

  • Full control over retention and deletion

Neither option ever reveals your personal phone number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I see the random number being used for my calls?
A: By default, no. The system handles this automatically. In edge cases where it's needed, contact support.

Q: What if someone calls back a random number?
A: They'll hear "The voicemail box is not set up" and cannot leave a message.

Q: Can I upgrade to a dedicated number mid-Problem?
A: Yes! Subscribe anytime and your dedicated number will be used for future calls.

Q: What happens to my dedicated number if I pause my Loophole account?
A: If your account goes into "Frozen" status, you lose access to the dedicated number. If you want to keep it, maintain an Active account with available credit.

Q: Can I have multiple dedicated numbers?
A: Currently, each account supports one dedicated number. Contact support if you have unique business needs requiring multiple numbers.

Q: Do recipients see my name or just the phone number?
A: Caller ID typically shows just the phone number. Some carriers may display "Unknown" or the area code + number. Phone Console identifies itself verbally at the start of the call.

Summary
